I perform in a band
or in various acoustic combos
at fairs and festivals and in bars, restaurants and clubs across Ontario. We played over 120 shows last year, showcasing the acoustic lap steel guitar. My band features the lap steel guitar together with bass and drums, and sometimes electric guitar. The distinctive slide of the lap steel weaves through an eclectic mix of roots, vintage rock ’n’ roll, blues and original work providing an unusual musical twist that audiences really enjoy. The lap steel guitar brings songs to life in a way that other guitars can't. My acoustic duos and trios combine my slide guitar with another guitar, a stand-up bass or the rhythm of the cajon. The lap steel/cajon duo generates an intimacy that eludes other musical combos. Both uncommon instruments, the Hawaiian lap steel guitar and the Peruvian cajon complement each other perfectly, with the driving beat of the cajon and the growl of the lap steel engaging both discerning and casual listeners alike. For festivals, roots, Americana and blues venues, I perform original work and songs that may be lesser known to the general public. Many of these are featured on my CD, "Seventh Day"
. For restaurants, bars and clubs, I add many additional songs by such artists as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Credence Clearwater, Tom Petty, Johnny Cash, Neil Young, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and others because audiences at those venues often like to hear familiar songs. I find that works well. (See the full Repertoire here.
